New member sought for independent alcohol complaints panel
The Portman Group is advertising for a new member to join the Independent Complaints Panel (Panel), the independent body that considers complaints about alcohol marketing under the Portman Group’s Code.
The Panel is a lay panel of ten people from a wide range of backgrounds and experience. To maintain balance, this vacancy is reserved for someone with a drinks sector background and can include those who are currently or have previously been employed by an alcohol producer. .
Jenny Watson, Chairman of the Independent Complaints Panel said:
“It's important for the Panel to have members with a wide range of views. We are seeking someone with a drinks sector background to bring their expertise and understanding of alcohol marketing to the table. This is a key role in upholding the strict standards that are set for alcohol marketing in the UK.”
Kay Perry, Programme and Regulatory Affairs Director at the Portman Group which provides the secretariat function for the Panel, said:
“The Independent Complaints Panel is the final arbiter of the Codes. It is vital that its members are drawn from a diverse range of backgrounds. Since the start of 2011, we have introduced a system of open advertising and recruitment to ensure that as many people as possible are aware of the Panel vacancies when they arise. This is a great opportunity to be part of an independent body which can rule against irresponsible alcohol marketing.”
