Underage Issues

  • The proportion of young people in England (11-15 year olds) that have tried alcohol fell from 59% in 2004 to 38% in 2014. In 2016, 44% of pupils said they have ever drunk an alcoholic drink. Data prior to 2016 is not comparable due to a change in the survey question
  • In 2016, 50% agreed that it was ok to try alcohol to see what it’s like, down from 67% in 2003.
  • n 2016, 19% said it was OK to try getting drunk to see what it was like, down from 31% in 2003.
  • The number of alcohol-specific hospital admissions among under 18s has declined by 48% in the last decade
