Commenting on the announcement of NHS funding for Safe Spaces over the Christmas period.
John Timothy Chief Executive of the Portman Group said:
“The announcement of NHS funding for safe spaces is fantastic news. It’s recognition of the important work we know they do in helping vulnerable people and reducing alcohol-related harm.”
“Just last year we worked with MAKE Associates to look into the potential savings that a modest investment in Safe Spaces could deliver for the public purse. It found that there is a potential for more than 150 new Safe Spaces to be set up across the UK which, once delivered, would return more than £100 million a year in cost savings to the NHS.
“Safe Spaces are already supported by a range of partners across the UK. We’re delighted that NHS England has recognised the important role they can play.”
