Commenting on a new report from the International Alliance for Responsible Drinking which shows that binge drinking has declined by 26% in the WHO European region between 2005 and 2016, Chief Executive of the Portman Group, John Timothy said:
“We all know binge drinking is harmful and so it is encouraging to see levels of alcohol misuse falling across Europe. Here in the UK binge drinking has fallen by 20% since 2007, with the largest fall coming amongst the youngest drinkers. Nevertheless, we are not complacent and our members recognise the need to build on these positive trends. We will continue to lead the industry, support effective self-regulation of alcohol marketing and promotions, and give our backing to Drinkaware to engage consumers directly on the need for responsible choices.”
